Mazda brand achieved an all-time best ranking
The J.D. Power IQS is an industry-standard survey of customers' experience with their vehicles after three months of vehicle ownership, in which vehicles are ranked by "problems per hundred vehicles". The lower the score, the higher "perceived" quality of the vehicle or brand.
Highlights from this year's survey include:
· The Mazda brand achieved an all-time best ranking of 5th overall, 2nd among non-premium brands, and best 'problems-per-100-vehicle' (PPH) score of 100.
· All Mazda vehicles have improved year-over-year. The brand improved 12% in initial quality, outpacing the industry improvement of only 3% this model year.
· The MX-5 continued its dominance in the Compact Sporty Car segment, and is the highest-scoring non-premium vehicle in the entire study. It claimed the top spot in class again this year, making it number one in the segment five of the last six years.
· Mazda's performance exhibits our cross-vehicle-line quality consistency and demonstrates our cross-departmental customer-driven processes work.
Over the past five model years, no brand has improved more in this study than Mazda. It is a testament to the dedicated, sustained quality efforts of all Mazda employees. We achieved our stated goal of top-three performance by listening to the customer, and through the diligence and hard work of many organizations within Mazda, as well as the attention to detail demonstrated by our Mazda dealers making sure the car is right before delivering it to the customer. Since launching the PDI processes back in August 2008, we have seen a 74% decline in warranty repairs during the first 30 days of ownership.
